Rose fibre is a relatively new textile material that is gaining in popularity. This natural fibre made from the viscose process is environmentally friendly and astonishes with its many properties. Its many strengths are numerous: biodegradable, silky, innovative and many more.
What is rose fibre?
Rose fibre is a vegetable fibre extracted from the stems of rose bushes. It is produced using the viscose process, like bamboo fibre or crabyon. This means that it is of natural origin but remains an artificial chemical material.
A chemical treatment is carried out on the cellulose found in the stems of rose bushes. This process, despite the use of vegetable fibres, is still polluting. The carbon disulphide used for the transformation is the cause. But the new processes used make it an eco-fibre. Indeed, it can also come from the ECOVERO® process. This process allows the production of an ecological viscose.
The different properties
Rose fibre has many properties and strengths. It is a material that is still little known but which is surely developing. It is often compared to bamboo fibre, which it greatly resembles in appearance and feel. It is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. Its original colour can vary slightly in a few shades of white allowing it to be used for many projects.
The different applications
The field of possibilities is wide as regards the use of rose yarns. This product can, in fact, be used for a variety of craft purposes. It can be used as an alternative to silk because of the similarity in texture. Rose fibre is indeed soft and has an incredible sheen.
Rose fibre can be dyed and lends itself perfectly to vegetable dyes. It can be dyed to a purple colour with red cabbage dye, among others.
Today, its yarn is mainly used in paper making and in the design of hand-woven clothing. Rose yarn can be used alone or combined with another fibre for added strength.
Rose fibre is therefore an eco-responsible material to keep an eye on as its use may surprise us. It is a biodegradable and environmentally friendly textile alternative and thus meets the new needs of consumers.
