What is hemp?
Opting for hemp fibre textile means choosing a high-quality, ecological alternative. Indeed, the characteristics of this material are not to be counted. It is highly resistant to moisture, UV rays, heat and light. The material can absorb up to 30% of moisture and retain up to 95% of UV rays. It is also ideal for sensitive skin with its anti-bacterial properties.
In terms of production, hemp does not require any chemicals. Ten times less water is used than in the production of cotton. As for the quality of the garment, hemp is one of the most skin-friendly fabrics. It can be compared to its sidekick: linen.
Where to find hemp clothes ?
It is not common to find hemp clothes on the textile market. Or at least in the fast-fashion collections. But if you are looking to change your consumption habits and buy more responsibly, hemp is an easy alternative to find. Hemp is often mixed with organic cotton.
The activist company Patagonia, for example, offers clothing made from hemp and organic cotton. Trousers, shirts, T-shirts, coats and other accessories: hemp fabric is used in all forms at Patagonia. With a Canadian and rustic style, the company stands out for its eco-responsible and trendy clothing. A real winning combination.
As for more independent brands, there is no lack of French brands. DareGreen offers hemp clothing with the aim of “giving back an important place to the natural fibre in the textile market for economic, cultural and ecological reasons”. Based in Loire-Atlantique, DareGreen sells textile products for women and men. Either 100% hemp or 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton. It is also possible to find organic hemp clothes on fast-fashion websites such as Asos, which distributes brands such as Seeker. This makes it possible to offer eco-responsible products to a larger number of people.
Finally, hemp is an ecological material that you should buy for a responsible wardrobe. With its great resistance, it will be your best ally for many years. You can easily find what you are looking for on the internet via brands that are more independent than others, so don’t hesitate and go for it!
