Coconut fibre is obtained by recycling coconut after it has been used in food or filtration industries.

History : The coconut fibre sector has only fully developed in India and sri Lanka, but it also occupies an important place in the economies of Brazil, Indonesia, the Philippines and Viet Nam.

Current consumption

Approximately 650,000 tonnes of coconut fibre are produced each year , mainly in India and Sri Lanka. These Two Countries are the main exporters, followed by Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Viet Nam and the Philippines.

Manufacturing process

Coconut fibres are recovered and crushed into small particles ( rich in active charcoal) which are integrated into the melted polyester. To end up creating the yarn, simply spin the fiber similar to traditional processes.

Composition and advantages of coconut fibre

The proportions of Cocona  in textiles range from 60 to 80%, to this is added Polyester (PE) and sometimes Polyamides (PA). The more Cocona, the darker the shade.
The advantages of this fibre are evident in the properties that it can bring to a textile. Indeed, this fiber offers protection against UVA but also against UVB. This fiber also offers more efficient evaporative cooling combined with a natural absorption of bad odors.
One of the other benefits of coconut fibre is in its waste… And yes, the scrap that comes out of the chip  is a quality mulch and fertilizer. The compost from this waste is an excellent organic fertilizer and soil conditioner for crops.

Functions and applications

The colors

The most frequently used color is brown fiber, obtained from ripe coconuts. In addition to the brown color of this fiber there is also the white fiber extracted from green nuts.

Prospects for the coconut fibre market

India wants to boost this sector, and is at the initiative of the International Coconut Fibre Festival, organized every year. It is this dynamic that supports market expansion and the country intends to increase production by streamlining the fibre collection process to better meet demand.
