Cradle To Cradle : Authors William McDonough et Mickael Braungart
Cradle to cradle means “from cradle to cradle” and this book advocates a “positive ecological footprint”, which consists of thinking of the product from the beginning to give it several lives.
It was in this book that I discovered the difficulties of using recycled materials in the textile industry. It is where I was able to understand how difficult it was to recycle a material made with several components.
This book is now a reference to ensure the transition from a linear economy to a circular economy. And in this book, textiles have a special place with plastic (PET) from bottles recycled into trousers, rubber also recycled into belts, recycled polyester… It is a nice overview of the textile industry, and its possibilities towards a circular economy.
“Biomimétisme, Quand la nature inspire des innovations durables” Author Janine M.Benuys
In this book, you will understand how nature, biodiversity, behaves and how it is in essence “circular”. Indeed, in nature, “nothing is lost, everything is transformed” and this is a rich lesson in our quest for transition from the textile industry. This book is logical, simple and captivating. In fact, I left it with my friends at Coco Friendly, a very nice shop in the centre of Lille! This book was written by a RedDress NGO and it looks like all the tips you might want to implement in your daily life. This book is aimed more at clothing consumers and invites them to organize themselves around the 4R philosophy: Reduce, Reuse, Recyle, Rethink. I base my interventions on this 4Rs principle, and add a final point: Regenerate! This also allows me to mention all these new materials that are totally biodegradable. In fact, more and more textiles and packaging are being developed!
“Ils changent le monde” Author : Robs Hopkins
Rob Hopkkins, famous for having called the transition movement, created this movement in order to develop the resilience of communities, i.e. their capacity to resist economic and ecological shocks and thus to provide for the needs of the population even in times of crisis. This is a vast subject and with his book “They are changing the world” 1001 local initiatives are listed. What I find interesting is that hundreds of ideas could be applied to the textile sector. As soon as I discovered a new initiative, I had a new idea that could be applied to textiles. What is interesting is that we also discover all the management mechanisms through these small examples of resilience and today I think that this is the key that everyone is missing. It is possible to have ideas, but organising a system (active or passive) that allows a whole societyto benefit while being viable, that is the difficulty.

In this book, we will find clear actions and concrete implementations for a fashion oriented Slow-Fashion. You will find a set of ideas put forward and implemented in the field of textiles and that is the added value of this book. In addition, I like the author who I know is very invested in what she does and I think that all these books deserve to be discovered.
